What to Expect During a Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery is a common cosmetic procedure that can give you transformative results. Having a breast lift can improve the appearance of your breasts, boosting your self-confidence and increasing your comfort. Whatever your reasoning for wanting a breast lift, Suffolk Breast Practice will provide you with the relevant information for you to know what to expect during a breast lift procedure. Our service is entirely non-judgemental and impartial; we seek to create a safe and secure environment to provide you with the highest standard of care and advice possible.
There are many reasons to have a breast lift. You may have experienced changes in the shape and size of your breasts as a result of pregnancy, ageing, or gravity, causing your breasts to sag. Weight gain and weight loss are also factors that can affect the look and feel of your breasts. You may just be uncomfortable with the look of your breasts and feel you could benefit from having a breast lift.

Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, can give your breasts a more youthful appearance by reshaping your breasts and removing excess skin. As a result, your breasts will feel firmer and look more ‘lifted’, as the name suggests. While breast lift surgery can benefit women with a variety of shapes and sizes, it is most effective with women who have smaller breasts. If you are seeking fuller, larger breasts, then breast augmentation may be the better option.

There is a difference between breast lift and augmentation surgery; breast lifts do not involve implants and do not increase the fullness of your breasts. Depending on your desires, a combined breast lift and augmentation procedure may be the most beneficial option for you. Visit our blog to learn more about breast augmentation.

Breast Lift Procedure
Breast lift surgery is a major operation. At Suffolk Breast Practice, we ensure the patient is fully aware of the benefits, risks, and possible side effects of the surgery and can provide informed consent prior to the operation. We will also ensure that you are fit to undergo surgery by performing a physical examination and any tests as necessary. We understand that surgery can induce feelings of anxiety and trepidation, which is why we offer an empathetic service to support your needs. Here, we outline what to expect during a breast lift procedure.

There are various ways to perform a breast lift, depending on your desired results and the shape of your breasts. You will either be placed under local or general anaesthetic to ensure maximum comfort during the operation. The breast lift procedure involves the removal of excess skin and the reshaping of breast tissue. Skin around the areola will be removed and your nipples will be repositioned according to the new shape of your breasts. Incisions will be closed with the use of stitching. While your breasts will remain the same size, the operation is designed to reshape them to ensure they look firmer and higher. The surgery will take between two and three hours to complete.
Surgery after a
Breast Lift
Suffolk Breast Practice will provide you with a follow-up service to ensure you receive as much comfort as possible following the operation. You will be given advice on how to take care of your breasts after surgery; it is important to follow all advice given during the recovery process.

It may take several weeks for you to resume a normal daily routine. We recommend avoiding any strenuous physical activity within the first few weeks but try to resume normal activity as soon as possible. We also recommend wearing suitable clothing to aid the healing process, such as a support bra. Your breasts will have swollen following the operation, although this should decrease over time, as should the visibility of any permanent scarring. The intended result of the surgery may not be noticeable for several months, until swelling has decreased. It is important to report any pain or side effects you may experience – we will discuss details on what to look for prior to the surgery.
